OUR CURRENT PROJECTS IN: KAMPONG CHAM

Goal: To help deprived and marginalized children aged 0-3 and 3-6 years old learn and develop.

Objectives:

  1. To strengthen community-based maternal and early childhood health services.

  2. To improve early childhood learning and development of deprived children aged 0-5 years old.

  3. To prevent future learning stuntedness in children aged 0-5 years old.

  4. To increase support from authorities to address educational issues of children aged 0-5 years old.

Activities: 

In partnership with Save The Children, funded through the Prudence Foundation, Wathnkapheap works with Provincial and District Offices of Education, Schools, Commune Committees for Women and Children (CCWC), and parents to support home-based ECCD services.

  • Support and train core parents from the community ('Lead Parents') on early stimulation for child development, child health and nutrition, as well as children’s cognitive, social and emotional development. Lead parents support their children’s development and provide peer-to-peer support to other parents.

  • Train and form teachers from the local community on on home-based ECCD to build the capacity of lead parents.

  • Train CCWC members on home-based ECCD to build the capacity of lead parents.

  • The project develops quality books and learning aids for children and their parents. Books are gifted to families, who are encouraged to use the First Read books at the parenting sessions to improve their child’s development and master early stimulation techniques.
